Ming-Kai Tsai

Founder

Mr. Tsai began his career serving as IC Design Manager for seven years at the Electronic Research & Service Organization (ERSO) in the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI); a national, leading technology research firm in Taiwan. During the next 14 years, he achieved various high-level executive positions at United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC). In 1994, he was made president of UMC’s Business Unit II, which produced chipsets for consumer and multimedia products.  Three years later, the division was spun off and formed into what is now MediaTek. In 2004, he started to lead founding of Andes Technology Cooperation(Andes), and kept being Chairman of Andes from 2005 to 2021.

Over the course of his career, Chairman Tsai has been recognized by various awards and accolades for his achievements, including the ITRI Laureate Award, honorary doctoral degrees from National Tsing Hua University and National Chiao Tung University, and the Distinguished Graduate Alumni Award from National Taiwan University in Taiwan. In 2013, 2014, and 2016, Mr. Tsai was recognized as one of the “100 Best-Performing CEOs in the World” by Harvard Business Review. In 2015, MediaTek appeared on Forbes’ Global 2000, where he was additionally named as the third top performing CEO from the list.

Mr. Tsai received a BSEE from the National Taiwan University and a MSEE from the University of Cincinnati.

Frankwell Jyh-Ming Lin

CO-FOUNDER, Chairman and CEO

Frankwell Lin, Chairman of Andes Technology, started his career being as application engineer in United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) while UMC was an IDM with its own chip products, he experienced engineering, product planning, sales, and marketing jobs with various product lines in UMC. In 1995, after four years working on CPU chip product line as business director, he was transferred to UMC-Europe branch office to be its GM when UMC reshaped to do wafer foundry service, he lead UMC-Europe to migrate itself from selling IDM products to selling wafer foundry service. In 1998, after 14 years working in UMC, Frankwell switched job to work in Faraday Technology Corporation (Faraday), he lead ASIC business development as starting, then on-and-off leading ASIC implementation, chip backend service, IP business development, industry relationship development (IR), as well as Faraday’s spokesperson, in 2004, he started to lead the CPU project spin off operation of Faraday. Frankwell became co-founder of Andes Technology Corporation in 2005 when it was found up, he formally took position to be Andes’ President since 2006 and got promoted as Chairman and CEO in 2021.

Frankwell received BSEE degree of Electrophysics from the National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan, and MSEE degree of Electrical and Computer Engineering from Portland State University, Oregon, USA. Under his management, Andes has been recognized as one of leading suppliers of embedded CPU IP in semiconductor industry. Andes also won the reputation of leading technology company with awards such like 2012 EE Times worldwide Silicon 60 Hot Startups to Watch, 2015 the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific award, etc. Frankwell received accolade award of Outstanding Technology Management Performance, Taiwan, in 2015 and ERSO award in 2020 for his contribution to the high-tech industry. Frankwell is also the Board Director of RISC-V International since 2020.

Charlie Hong-Men Su

CO-FOUNDER, President and CTO

Dr. Charlie Su is a cofounder and the first employee of Andes. He established R&D and Technical Marketing, and he has been leading product planning, development, and promotion to establish Asia’s first patented licensable processor IP families AndesCore™. In 2016, Dr. Su led the team to incorporate RISC-V into Andes fifth-generation architecture AndeStar™ V5, and started a new chapter of Andes growth in existing markets such as IOT, MCU/MPU, Storage and WiFi/BT as well as new applications such as AI/ML, Automotive, and 5G. Dr. Su spent over 12 years in the Silicon Valley as both individual contributor and management, and made key contributions to several advanced and successful processors such as the Sun multi-core multi-threading Ultrasparc T1 and T2 processors, the C-Cube high-performance E-series MPEG media processors, the MIPS out-of-order R10K processor, and the Intergraph Clipper VLIW processor. Prior to cofounding Andes, he led the CPU and DSP task forces in Faraday Technology as Chief Architect.

Dr. Charlie Su got his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, M.S. in Computer Science from National Tsing-Hua University, and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University. He was honored to get the government Technology Achievement Award from the Department of Economic Affairs in 2010, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the National Tsing-Hua University in 2011.

YungChing

Yung-Ching Hsiao

Senior VICE PRESIDENT of research and development

Yung-Ching Hsiao joined Andes in 2005 and played various leadership roles in functional verification and product development. Prior to joining Andes, he worked on UltraSPARC IV+ design and verification in Sun Microsystems.

He holds a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering in University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in National Taiwan University.

Justin

Justin Jen-Chih Tseng

Senior Vice president of Technology and New Business

Justin is Senior Vice President of Technology and New Business at Andes Technology. He is responsible for HW/SW custom design service and standard HW IP developments. He joined Andes in 2005 and had join-developed a variety of AndesCore processor IPs, ranging from microcontrollers to Linux application processors. Prior to Andes, he started his career as a microprocessor design engineer at Sun Microsystems, with the focus on the design and verification for server-grade microprocessors.

Justin received his M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in UW-Madison and B.S. degree in Engineering Science in National Cheng Kung University.

Al Kuo-Chi Lin

Vice President of Sales, Headquarters

Al Lin is a Sales VP in charge of business development in Asia and Europe for Andes. He owns 20 years of semiconductor industry experience, focused on foundry, design service and IP. Prior to join Andes, he was sales deputy director of Faraday. He started his career as RD engineer in UMC and served as RD manager when he joined Trecenti Technology in Japan.

Al received M.S. in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University, and B.S. in Electrophysics from Chiao-Tung University.

Emerson

Emerson Hsiao

Senior Vice President of Andes Technology USA Corporation

Dr. Hsiao has an extensive background in the ASIC and IP industry. Prior to joining Andes, he worked at Kilopass Technology as the VP of Marketing. Dr. Hsiao previously held the General Manager position for Faraday Technology USA, where he spent several years in field application in various locations including Taiwan, Japan and USA. Dr. Hsiao worked at UC Santa Barbara as a visiting scholar prior to Faraday. Emerson received his Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University.

Fiona Han-Chang Chou

Vice President of of Finance

Fiona Chou is VP of Finance Division at Andes. She is responsible for managing the company’s global finance organizations and human resources. She joined Andes in 2005 and was promoted to her current role in 2009. Prior to Andes, she served as Finance Manager of Gemstone Communications, Inc., a silicon provider for broadband network connectivity worldwide. Prior to Gemstone, she served as Senior Auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Taiwan. Fiona received a BS degree in Accounting from Fu Jen Catholic University.

KC Lin

KC Lin

Associate Vice President of the RD-Software Division

KC Lin is the Associate Vice President of the RD-Software Division in Andes Technology Corporation. He is in charge of the development and design of software/ firmware development tool and system software for Andes processors and platform IP. He joined Andes in April 2009 to lead the RD-software design department and served as the Department Manager, Director, and Senior Director consecutively. With nearly 37 years of work experience in the industry, he has been engaged in system software, firmware, IC product development, system architecture design, project management and business operation management.

KC Lin started his career since November 1983 in the system software department of the Electronic Research & Service Organization (ERSO) under the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). He was there performing national defense service and had worked as a Deputy Engineer, Engineer and then Project Leader during the six-year period. In January 1990, he followed the department head to a startup company, J.bond Computer Inc., taking the role of product manager for the R&D department. In June 1991, his software department was merged into Winbond Electronics to develop and design logic IC products. He then held positions from Deputy Engineer, Engineer, Section Manager, Deputy Manager, Manager, Department Manager, Deputy Director, Director, to Associate Vice President. In June 2008, he joined Nuvoton Technology, a company established by the logic product business group from Winbond, taking the duties of the Associate Vice President of the Microcontroller Product Center and the Technical Deputy Executive of the Consumer Product Business Group before he retired at the year end.

KC Lin received his M.S. degree in the Institute of Computer Science & Information Engineering and B.S. degree in the Department of Electronic Engineering from Tamkang University.

Paul Guang-Heng Wang

General Counsel

Paul Wang is General Counsel of Andes and has the responsibility of overseeing all legal and intellectual property matters, domestic and international, for Andes. Prior to Andes, he earned more than 15 years of experience in managing in-house IP and legal teams in the semiconductor IP industry. Previously, he was Chief Legal Officer and Special Assistance to President at Faraday Technology Corporation. He also served as Vice Convener of Intellectual Property Committee for the Association of Industries in Science Parks in Taiwan.

Paul is studying in an Executive MBA program at National Chiao Tung University and holds a BA from National Taiwan University.

Eric Kuo-Cheng Huang

AVP of Quality and Safety Management

Eric Huang serves as the AVP of Quality and Safety Management Division at Andes Technology Corporation (Andes), responsible for overseeing quality management, automotive functional safety product and system management, as well as planning and promoting comprehensive quality management through the TQM Committee. With five years of quality management experience in traditional manufacturing and LCD industries, and nearly 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, including United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), Faraday Technology Corporation, and Andes. He specializes in wafer foundry, design services, IP quality management and innovative development. Before joining Andes, he served as Deputy Director of QRA at Quanta Display Inc., Quality Management Director, and Special Assistant to President at Faraday. He holds SGS certifications as both a ISO 9001 auditor and a Semiconductor Automotive Functional Safety Professional (SC-AFSP). He played a key role in the establishment and certification of ISO 9001 and ISO 26262 at Andes, making Andes the world’s first RISC-V processor IP supplier to pass ASIL-D hardware and software development process certification for automotive functional safety in 2020. In recognition of his achievements, Eric received the Excellent Quality Manager Award from the Quality Manager Association in 2022. 

Eric obtained his Master degree in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management from National Tsing Hua University, and Bachelor degree in Applied Mathematics from National Chung Hsing University.

Amanda Yu-Ling Hsieh

AVP OF IPBU Sales Division

Amanda Yu-Ling Hsieh is currently the AVP of Andes Technology IP Business Unit and leads the sales teams in charge of the sales and marketing activities in Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea, and Europe. She has been with Andes Technology for more than 10 years and plays an important role for the rapid revenue growth in the past 10 years.

Amanda is a veteran in semiconductor industry, especially in semiconductor IP licensing. She got her MBA degree from National Central University, Taiwan in 2000 and went on to spend her entire career so far in the areas of sales and marketing for different semiconductor companies.
