What is GPS?
 
GPS is an abbreviation for Global Positioning System. The GPS is developed by United States Department of Defense and consists of a constellation of at least 24 medium Earth orbit satellites sending special satellite signals to the Earth. A GPS receiver can use these special satellite signals to compute its location, speed, direction, and time. Although the GPS is developed by United States government, it is free for civilian use worldwide.
 
What can GPS be used for?
GPS is very useful for navigation for aircrafts and ships. And it becomes popular in recent years for both car navigation and personal navigation devices. A smart GPS car navigation system can tell the driver not only where and what direction the car is driving right now but also how to get to the desired destination more quickly and smoothly. It can also tell the driver how to get to the nearest gas station and other interesting places such as restaurants, scenic tourist favorites. A GPS personal navigation gadget can do the same thing as a GPS car navigation system and more. It can be used in outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, and in city navigations such as traveling.

A further extension to the navigation application is for tracking the position of a person or a car that has carried a GPS receiver for personal safety and property protection.

Other uses of GPS include map making, land surveying, scientific research, and anything in the future you may produce from your brilliant ideas and products.

The efficient inter-mixable 16-bit/32-bit instruction set further reduces the code size for the smallest ROM cost and runtime footprint.

Operating Systems
  Linux for full-featured systems and Nucleus for small footprint devices.
